By now you’ve seen the YouTube clip of the USC football team singing “Lean on Me” in a team meeting. It’s super adorable, despite their reputation for having weirdo team chants. So take a back seat, USC song girls.
Music legend Bill Withers wrote that song in 1972, despite the fact that most of the Trojans probably thought it was written by Club Nouveau in the 1980s. Withers recently stopped by a USC team meeting to punk the team into thinking they had to wear anti-fungus boots in the showers before revealing who he was. The team gives a collective, “Holy crap!” at the revelation, but we don’t know if that’s because he was there in person, or because they were surprised he was still alive.
