This is absolutely the most perfect video on the Internet. It’s genius. It’s like the Zapruder film of Web videos. Mainly because this kid’s head also goes back and to the left. But we’ll get to that in a second.
In the first three seconds of the video, you see a kid dart down the sideline of a boys’ high school basketball game. Then he disappears out of frame. You see him four seconds later as he’s almost made it out of the gym at the same time some kid heaves up a terrible shot at the buzzer. When the ball finally makes contact with the kid’s head it wastes him. And everyone in the crowd gets a moment to assess WTF has just happened before a collective, “Oh, my God” gesture where they put their hands on their head.
It’s the perfect video. It is the perfect combination of a kid, an injury and amazing timing. It’s so much better than kids whacking each other in the face or the balls. It’s better than standard sports bloopers. We hope that high school team used that kid’s head to practice shooting three pointers later in the season. Regardless, this kid has his video have just been inducted into the Sports Comedy Hall of Fame.
